"I approach every day with a smile and a brew."
What led you to work for PETA?
After 3 years in the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer, I spent 9 years in 42 Commando Royal Marines, travelling to many locations around the world. I left not knowing what direction to follow. I spoke to my dad, and he said “do what makes you happy” ......so I spent the next 30 years driving HGV1 Trucks. I wanted to learn all aspects of the industry. I gained experience from Tankers to Abnormal loads, and everything in-between. The job took me all over the UK and Europe, plus parts of North Africa.
It was my wife Debbie, that suggested I pursue a career in training. So, I gained my instructors qualification and started training in-house. Unfortunately, I was made redundant. Lucky for me, a position became vacant at PETA for a MHE Instructor.
What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?
My role not only involves training delegates on Forklift Trucks but also MEWPs, Lorry Mounted Cranes and Overhead Cranes. I want to pass my knowledge on to the present and future work force.
What knowledge and experience do you draw upon for your role?
Everything I’ve learnt over the years, I can now pass on.
How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?
I approach every day with a smile and a brew.
What is your teaching style?
I would say my teaching style is "Down to Earth".
What are your personal values and what is important to you?
My family always comes first. Then my friends. Then Me.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
I enjoy cooking and baking. DIY, working on cars, for myself or neighbours. My garden brings me a lot of satisfaction also.
