Lucy Gardiner

HR Business Partner

"I focus on supporting our people, creating an inclusive environment, and building on our systems and processes that reflect our mission, vision, and values."

What led you to work at PETA?

I am a dedicated working mum of two boys and a loving wife. With over eight years of experience as an HR professional, I have built my career around my passion for people and inclusion. My journey into HR was driven by a deep desire to support individuals in reaching their full potential and creating workplaces where everyone feels valued and empowered. I knew PETA represented everything I stand for when applying for this role.

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?

As our HR Business Partner (HRBP), I focus on supporting our people, creating an inclusive environment, and building on our systems and processes that reflect our mission, vision, and values. Knowing that my work contributes to a cause as impactful as PETA's keeps me motivated every day.

What knowledge and experience do you draw upon for your role?

As a CIPD Assoc, I bring expertise in people, employee relations, policies and procedures, and workplace inclusion. Each day I draw on my past experiences to push our future forward.

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

My day-to-day approach is rooted in empathy, organisation, and collaboration, with strong communication and adaptability being key to our success. As our HRBP, every day my role experiences different challenges and I find great pleasure in finding the solution to any matter we may face.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy playing rounders, reading some novels, socialising, spending time with my family and have recently joined a choir, I love embracing activities that bring me joy and bring a good healthy balance to my life.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

My family is my biggest motivation, especially my boys. I aim to inspire them by showing how women are making their mark in the modern world. Integrity, inclusion, and perseverance guide me as I work. I am HUGE fan and have learnt a lot by reading ‘What Would Frida Do?’ by Arianna Davis.
