"I believe in being proactive and responsive, always aiming to deliver value and build trust"

What led you to work for PETA?

I’ve spent over 10 years in the hospitality industry, working in a variety of roles including Head Chef, Bar Manager, Mixologist, and Restaurant Supervisor. These positions gave me a deep understanding of customer service, team leadership, and operational excellence. I’ve also explored other industries such as the motor trade, cheesemaking, healthcare and sales, which have added to my versatility and broadened my perspective. What led me to PETA was a desire to channel my passion for learning and development into a career where I could help others grow. I’ve always been driven by curiosity and the belief that learning opens doors. Joining PETA felt like the perfect opportunity to combine my experience with my enthusiasm for supporting others on their professional journeys.

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?

As a Business Development Manager at PETA, I work with organisations and individuals to identify training solutions that support growth, compliance, and career progression. What drives me is the opportunity to make a real difference, whether that’s helping a business upskill its workforce or guiding someone toward a new qualification that opens doors. I love connecting with people, understanding their goals, and finding ways to support them. This role allows me to do what I love: learn, share knowledge, and empower others. Every day brings something new, and that variety keeps me motivated. I’m passionate about making training accessible and relevant, especially for industries like hospitality where I have first-hand experience in multiple roles.

What knowledge and experience do you draw upon for your role?

I bring a diverse skill set to my role, shaped by years in hospitality, leadership, and customer-facing environments. My time as a Head Chef, Bar Manager, Mixologist, and Restaurant Supervisor taught me how to manage teams, work under pressure, and deliver consistently high standards. I also gained valuable insights from roles in sales and the motor trade, which help me understand the needs of different sectors. I draw on this experience to tailor training solutions that are practical, engaging, and aligned with real-world challenges. My strengths include relationship-building, problem-solving, and a deep understanding of how training can impact performance and morale. I also have a strong grasp of compliance and operational needs, especially in fast-paced industries. This broad foundation allows me to connect with clients from all backgrounds and offer meaningful support.

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

Each day, I approach my role with energy, curiosity, and a genuine desire to help. I spend time listening to clients, understanding their challenges, and working collaboratively to find the right training solutions. Communication is key, whether I’m advising on apprenticeships, compliance courses, or leadership development. I also rely on adaptability, empathy, and strategic thinking to navigate different conversations and industries. Organisation and time management are essential, as I often juggle multiple projects and client needs. I believe in being proactive and responsive, always aiming to deliver value and build trust. My hospitality background helps me stay calm under pressure and maintain a service-focused mindset. Whether I’m drawing on my experience managing a busy bar or leading a kitchen team, I use those skills to stay focused, flexible, and client centred.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

Outside of work, I’m passionate about adventure and the outdoors. My partner and I love exploring new places and trying new activities, from hiking and camping to caving, climbing, and scuba diving. We’re always up for a challenge, and we share our lives with two wonderful dogs who keep us active and entertained. I find that being outdoors and pushing myself physically helps me stay grounded and energised. I also love learning new skills, whether that’s through travel, hobbies, or personal development, and will soon be looking to do some volunteering with local organisations working with children. That curiosity and drive for growth carries into my professional life, too. I’m always looking for ways to improve, expand my knowledge, and support others in doing the same.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

I value honesty, growth, and connection. I believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and I’m passionate about helping others discover their potential. Integrity is important to me, I strive to be genuine, reliable, and respectful in everything I do. I also value kindness and empathy, especially in professional relationships. What matters most is making a positive impact, whether that’s through my work, my interactions, or the way I live my life. I believe that with the right support and mindset, anyone can achieve meaningful change. That’s why I’m committed to creating opportunities for learning and development, and why I love being part of an organisation like PETA that shares those values.
