Article summary: As an Investors in People (Silver Award) standard organisation, PETA has a strong commitment to ensuring every member of staff has access to the training, learning and development that enables them to continually build on their knowledge, skills and expertise.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a cornerstone of the organisation and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to our people and our customers, as we know that to train others, we need to keep our skills in tip top shape! One of our Health and Safety Trainers, Ben Uncles, completed his Diploma in Health and Safety as part of his CPD. This is Ben's story ….
“In my seven and a half years as part of the team here at PETA, I have been incredibly fortunate to be involved in a wide range of classroom-based health and safety training, ranging from NEBOSH and IOSH courses, through to more ‘hands on’ training including our First Aid suite of courses and taking the lead in developing and delivering our IOSH Confined Space entry course. This involves practical entry and exit of our purpose built confined space, using tripod and winches, as well as emergency procedures involving the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (Drager escape sets).
As a trainer, I have witnessed some of the great milestones along the 50 years plus of PETA’s journey as a leading training provider on the South Coast, one of which was PETA being awarded NEBOSH Gold Learning Partner status in 2019. I am proud to be part of a team that offers such high quality course provision, as demonstrated by our pass rate for NEBOSH that continually surpasses the national pass rates! I guess that is a fair reflection of the passion that the entire team has for developing and delivering a great customer experience that provides genuine benefits to the delegates and to their employers.
It was wonderful to be able to share with the team last year, that I successfully completed my Health and Safety Diploma in Health and Safety. The course, completed through distance learning, really challenged me to research and build on my existing knowledge. It was really interesting that whilst I was studying, I found myself sharing more and more of my learnings with our delegates, particularly on our NEBOSH General certificate. It was no easy learning journey and took a lot of determination and commitment from me to learn and complete the assignments, but it was so worth it in the end!
As part of the health and safety training team, everything that builds and develops our experience, skills and knowledge, enables us to build internal capacity to support our customers with additional health and safety courses, and enables us to continually improve the learner experience. I am really proud of what I have achieved and look forward to many more new learning opportunities in the future.”
