Build digital skills within your business with an apprenticeship

Ensuring your business has the digital skills it needs to function and thrive is essential. Using technology to streamline and automate processes is vital, so having the means to do this within your workforce should be a priority for all businesses.

Data is critical to business.  The internal capability to measure performance via metrics, analyse trends and capture valuable insights to your business functions enables greater strategic insights to growing and continually improving efficiency in your business.

PETA offers a structured development solution with the Data Technician apprenticeship, which will build the knowledge and skills that your data management team needs to be digitally adept.  The training and coaching delivered by PETA will create the internal capability to source, format and present data securely in a relevant way for analysis, whether required for projects, research, management or day-to-day reporting on business performance.

Apprenticeships are not just for people newly recruited to your business. They can also be used to upskill existing staff too! They give structure as a ‘skills builder’ for existing staff, enabling greater agility and capability, resulting in better use of technology and increased role satisfaction. Staff feel invested in, which plays a vital part in retaining talent within your business.

Apprenticeships also deliver a great recruitment structure for business, at a time when attracting new talent is proving tricky with the market offering a limited pool of applicants. Young people are attracted to apprenticeships, as they offer the opportunity to secure a career development pathway for themselves within a company that is willing to invest in them.

We’re launching our next Data Technician apprenticeship programme shortly:

Data Technician - Level 3 Apprenticeship

Duration: 21 months, start date is flexible to suit the employer.

Management information is at the hub of business functioning and the analysis and presentation of data to help inform business decisions is crucial. A data technician will thrive in collating, processing and presenting data to meet internal stakeholders needs.  Apprentices will gain industry training and qualifications in:

  • Microsoft Excel Office Specialist (MOS)

  • Microsoft Power BI & Data Analyst (PL-300)

  • Microsoft Power Platforms (PL-900)

  • Application skills (Microsoft Word/PowerPoint/Project)

Interacting with colleagues, managers, customers and internal and external suppliers, your Data Technician will be responsible for collecting and will develop duties, knowledge, skills and behaviours in many areas including:

  • Collating and formatting data to facilitate review and further analysis by others

  • Blending data by combining data from various sources and formats to explore its relevance for the business needs

  • Analysing simple and complex structured and unstructured data to support business outcomes using basic statistical methods to analyse the data

  • Communicating results verbally, through reports and technical documentation, tailoring the message for the audience

  • Collaborating with people both internally and externally at all levels with a view to creating value from data

Little to no training cost to businesses

Thanks to the Apprenticeship Levy and Co-funded models for smaller businesses, 95% to 100% of the apprentice training costs will be government-funded. This means that training a new member of staff or upskilling an existing one could cost you nothing, or very little, which is a huge incentive.

The Apprenticeship Levy was introduced in 2017 to create national funding for apprenticeships and to enable businesses of all sizes to implement their own apprenticeship programmes.

Plus, organisations hiring a new apprentice aged 16 to 18 will receive a £1,000 incentive payment. This can be spent on anything to support your organisation’s costs such as uniforms, your apprentice’s travel or their salary, and it does not need to be paid back.

At PETA, we have a highly experienced team on hand to help you manage your apprenticeship funding to ensure you maximise your investment in apprenticeships - get in touch if you’d like to learn more about your options and how we can help.
