Summary: Meet Connor, Carrera's new IT Support Engineer, who kick-started his career with an IT Apprenticeship at PETA.
What made you choose an apprenticeship?
I chose to apply for a Digital Apprenticeship in ICT as I was sure it was the only career I wanted to pursue.
I didn’t want to go to college as classroom learning wasn’t for me. A big reason the apprenticeship appealed to me was because I was gaining valuable experience and knowledge whilst getting qualified in a job I loved.
What’s the best part of your job and being an apprentice?
The best part about being an apprentice was being surrounded by highly skilled professionals who were always there to help me and giving me their time to learn.
Carrera gave me a challenging task of investigating, building and maintaining an Epos system. Since then I we have deployed 11 Epos units in 5 different hospitality businesses.
This has given me a sense of achievement knowing I have made a difference to our clients and helped Carrera expand into Epos systems.
Would you recommend apprenticeships and if so why?
I would recommend an apprenticeship as there are a lot of career paths a young person can take.
It is a great way to enter your working life and gives you the opportunity to pursue your dream job. If you are a school or college leaver and want to feel part of a team whilst gaining experience (and money!), then becoming an apprentice is a no brainer.
