Role summary:

Founded in 1970, PETA Limited is recognised as one of the largest and most respected training organisations on the south coast.

We are seeking a customer-focused ICT Support Technician to ensure the continuous and smooth running of the IT systems within the business. Supporting users and hardware across two sites, you will be the focal point for ICT Support within the business, undertaking pro-active maintenance as well as re-active troubleshooting fault diagnosis.

Reporting to the ICT Systems Manager, you will monitor and maintain company servers, software platforms and security systems as well as purchasing, installing and configuring new hardware.

You will be competent in diagnosing and resolving issues and have the ability to work on your own initiative. You will add value by your methodical approach to problem-solving, task prioritisation as well as a calm and diplomatic approach to situations. You will be required to support visitors to our centres as they use our facilities, so a flexible and positive, can-do approach is essential.

In addition, the successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be confident in dealing with people both on the telephone and face to face. Applicants should have a keen interest and enthusiasm for all IT areas.

The role is offered on a full time basis and based at our Head Office in Cosham. Some driving will be required therefore a current driving licence and possession/use of a car is essential.

The job holder is responsible for providing an efficient support role to assist with the installation and maintenance of the company’s computer systems in accordance with the IT systems, procedures and policies. In addition, a professional support service is to be provided to clients and users across the company which includes the provision of training.

Major Tasks

  • Provides first-line user support to employees using software and systems across the company.
  • Provides a professional support service to clients using company facilities and systems.
  • Undertakes the installation and configuration of computers throughout the company.
  • Supports the maintenance of the company servers, monitoring backup status, managing users and resources.
  • Ensures the IT System remains secure by monitoring security systems in place and escalating issues as required.
  • Maintains documentary details of network and system settings across the company.
  • Provides initial training for new staff, or refresher training for existing staff.

Essential requirements for this role:

  • Experience of working in a technical support role supporting users
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fault-find
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and deliver to timescales with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Server, Office 365
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Group policy
  • Some network infrastructure knowledge including Routers, Switches, Wireless, VLANs, VPNs, Firewalls
  • Excellent communication skills
  • English and Maths, to a GCSE or equivalent Grade C (4) or above
  • Current UK Driving Licence

Desirable requirements for this role:

  • Certifications e.g. Microsoft, Cisco, ITIL, CompTIA
  • Experience setting up and installing workstations and servers
  • Experience of working in a customer facing role
  • Previous experience of managing eLearning platforms and content
  • Knowledge of, Hyper-V, Linux, Exchange, Azure, Veeam
  • Previous experience installing and configuring AV and multimedia technologies such as Projectors, TVs, Interactive Whiteboards and amps.

Annual Leave

The company leave year commences 1st January and your leave entitlement is 34 days which includes 8 public holidays (Pro rata for part time working).  Annual leave will increase dependent on length of service rising to 38 days including 8 bank holidays.

Scottish Widows Pension

The company operates a pension auto enrolment scheme through Scottish Widows.  This is a pension salary sacrifice scheme whereby employees are automatically enrolled after the first three months of their employment.  Currently contributions are 4% from the employee and 4% from the employer.  The National Insurance saving on salary sacrifice that the company would normally benefit from is also paid into the employee’s pension.  This is currently 13% calculated on the salary sacrifice.

Where local travel forms part of the role, possession of a car is necessary for which a business travel allowance will be paid (currently 45p per mile).
