The role is to work within the IT & Systems team at WightFibre whilst at the same time obtain an Infrastructure Technician (Level 3) Apprenticeship. As an apprentice analyst you will have the opportunity to work with the team responsible for the development, maintenance and operation of the IT & systems that support the day-to-day running of WightFibre’s business operations and core network.

WightFibre is an Internet & Telephony Service Provider on the Isle of Wight that uses many on-premise and cloud systems, in a mixed Microsoft and Linux environment, which enable its staff to perform their duties and ensure optimal performance of its network.

Duties will include:

An Infrastructure Technician apprentice learns to provide support to internal and external customers, helping them to be productive when using technology to do their own jobs, by using tools to problem solve and trouble shoot non routine problems. They are involved in setting people up on systems and providing support when they need it, rectifying issues to maintain the organisations productivity.

  • Work as part of the Information Systems team to deliver suitable IT solutions that achieve Business Objectives in alignment with the IT & Systems strategy.
  • Work with suppliers and contractors to deliver and support internal IT and systems.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the HERO Project, which encompasses the Businesses Operational and Support Systems, including Microsoft Dynamics, SharePoint, Azure, etc.
  • Become familiar with Microsoft Dynamics, assisting colleagues in handling Microsoft Dynamics support, maintenance, and future development
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of WightFibre’s IT Services and Systems (including software and hardware) alongside consultants, contractors, analysts and developers.
  • Follow the company Change Control procedures for the installation and maintenance of IT and systems.
  • Work as part of a team that acts as an internal point of contact for IT and Systems issues (alongside external IT support carrying out the desktop support function)
  • Assist with administration and scheduled maintenance and upgrades of IT and systems.
  • Contribute to the assessment, implementation and administration of IT and systems to ensure their Security and Compliance.
  • Become familiar with matters of data privacy and other compliance regulations pertinent to the systems that hold and process our data.
  • Take part in the monitoring of access, security and back-ups for IT and systems.
  • Provide user training, support, advice and feedback surrounding IT and systems.
  • Work with the Networks and Infrastructure teams to support the IT systems which form part of the external WightFibre ISP network.
  • Contribute to the specification, writing and development of applications e.g. creation of workflow scripts, automated processes and integration between systems.
  • Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and WightFibre’s Health & Safety policies.
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required at manager’s discretion.

Other information:

Within 21 months you will complete the Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship Level 3 along with the following external qualifications:

  • Microsoft (MTA) Networking Fundamentals
  • Microsoft (MTA) Mobility and device Fundamentals
  • Microsoft (MTA) Server Admin
  • Microsoft (MTA) Software development Fundamentals
  • ITIL Foundation V4

Skills required:

  • A very keen interest in IT and technology

Qualifications required:

  • GCSE English Grades A* - C (9 – 4) or Functional Skills Level 2 in English
  • GCSE Maths Grades A* - C (9-4) or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths
