Lily Thurling

Learning and Development Coach

"It would be boring if we were all the same, let's embrace the quirks."

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?

I am a Learning and Development Coach within the Management and Business team. I spend most of my days out and about, visiting my learners in their places of work. No two days are the same and I love the variety.

What knowledge/experience do you draw upon for your role?

I have 15 years' worth of retail management experience, with the last 8 years of that time being focused on training, coaching and compliance. PETA has taken all the things I love from previous jobs and combined them into the perfect role for me as a Learning & Development Coach.

I want everyone to feel like my number 1 priority. I am clear, detailed and make time for every apprentice to ensure they can complete the work set, to the best of their ability. I want all learners to feel welcomed and safe, I aim to create a trusted, safe space for everyone.

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

My sole focus whilst at work, are the learners. My learners mean everything to me, and I will do whatever it takes to get the best out of them. I am willing to adapt any way that I can, to achieve the best from them.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I am passionate about all things colour. My house is full of lots of mismatch colours and prints. I enjoy making an effort for work every day, trying out all the colours on my eyeshadow palette and being positive every day.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

I love embracing all things unique and aim for everyone around me to be their true self around me. I like to learn new things about learners and colleagues every day. It would be boring if we were all the same, let's embrace the quirks.
