Write a short description of yourself, your background and what led you to work for PETA?
As a qualified Accounting Technician I have worked in finance roles at various levels for a number of years. I moved into finance apprenticeship training and development a few years ago and have also been involved with adult education training. As a new accountancy training provider, this role with PETA enables me to create a programme to meet the needs of future apprentices.
What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?
My role at PETA is a Learning & Development coach within Management and Business Training, specialising in Finance L2, L3 and L4.
What knowledge/experience do you draw upon for your role?
I have completed all 3 AAT Accounting qualifications to become qualified, so I am well placed to understand issues that apprentices may encounter during their studies on their apprenticeships.
How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?
No two days are ever the same as there isn't a "cookie cutter" apprentice. It is important for me to listen to, and be aware of, the individual requirements of each apprentice and adapt my delivery and development to ensure their apprenticeship journey progresses.
What's your teaching style?
I prefer face to face delivery as this enables me to demonstrate the accounting techniques that can be adopted to ensure success on the programme. Apprentice involvement in the class time is important so they can demonstrate their understanding and increase their confidence.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
I enjoy family time and can often be found out enjoying the fresh air on a long walk.
What are your personal values, and what is important to you?
It is important to me to demonstrate empathy within your working role and personal life. I volunteer with a small housing charity to audit their financial accounts. I also support my neighbours and local community.
