Rebecca Collins

Conference Centre Assistant

"I enjoy meeting people and assisting them with their needs whilst they are in attendance at the centre."

What led you to work for PETA?

I started my working career in early years childcare, as a nursery nurse. I was responsible for providing a safe, caring and a stimulating environment for pre-school children. This was a demanding role, but was also fun and rewarding at the same time. Following the birth of my children, I progressed into a retail role, as this suited my family’s needs far better at that time. I have experienced the operation of all departments within the store and progressed into a team leader role. This gave me the chance to work with both retail colleagues and the general public. I enjoyed this experience as it allowed me to meet and engage with all sorts of people from all different walks of life. It helped me to improve my communication skills and allowed me to deal with difficult situations in a professional manner.

What is your role at PETA and what drives you to do what you do?

My role at PETA is a Conference Centre Assistant. I enjoy meeting people and assisting them with their needs whilst they are in attendance at the centre. I aim to make their PETA experience as simple and memorable as possible.

What knowledge and experience do you draw upon for your role?

My experience of working in retail for a number of years has given me experience of interacting with people and has demonstrated to myself that no day will ever be the same. This motivates me and keeps life interesting.

How do you approach your role on a day-to-day basis? What skills are required?

I approach each day with a positive can-do attitude.  My experience of working with the general public helps me interact with the delegates on a daily basis.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my family and socialising with friends. I enjoy taking walks in the country, geocaching and cycling. We have recently started paddle boarding and, despite spending more time in the water than on the board, I’m finding it great fun.

What are your personal values, and what is important to you?

I like to treat other people as I would expect them to treat me. Everybody deserves respect regardless of their abilities. Smile and the world will smile with you.
