Why choose an apprenticeship?

Ella Dorrington - Digital Marketing Level 3

Summary: Ella’s journey into her apprenticeship came from a desire to pursue a different path after completing her GCSEs. Opting for a practical approach, she embraced the opportunity to work, earn, and learn simultaneously whilst developing her digital marketing skills.

What led you to start your apprenticeship?

When completing my GCSEs, I decided that school was not for me and, therefore, knew I would dislike college. This led me to the decision to complete an apprenticeship. I could work, earn money, and learn, all in less time than going to college and working a part-time job. I could have all my weekends and weeknights free, which was a big benefit to doing it also.

Please tell us your current job title and what a typical day for you would involve?

Digital Marketing Assistant - A typical day for me would be checking processes I have set up to ensure they are working for the day ahead. Working on current projects, which could include editing the website, designing personalised items, creating posts, writing blogs, creating and editing newsletters, and creating new documents on insurance topics.

How was/is your apprenticeship experience?

I feel supported by my trainer and enjoy the sessions in the training centre. I also have enjoyed working with my company, and they have given me lots of opportunities to grow in my role.

What do you enjoy most about doing an apprenticeship?

Learning new things and being able to implement them. I love how every day is different.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I have no idea!

Piece of advice you would give someone thinking of doing an apprenticeship

If you try your hardest in the short term, it will benefit you in the long term. Also, don't get involved in workplace gossip!

How has an apprenticeship helped you progress within your role and company?

As my company does not have an in-house marketing team, I am the main one doing all their marketing. Therefore, I wouldn't have been able to learn the knowledge I know now if I had not taken on the apprenticeship.
